The numerous French heritage festivals, often called Rendez-Vous, revitalize a distant France but close in the consciousness of the Americans for whom the rich history of Colonial French Louisiana remains permanently a joy of life where it is good to remember.

At the time of New France, Canada was divided into three administrative districts, namely, Québec, Trois-Rivières, and Montréal. The color of the tuques (bonnets for some) became a regional distinction, blue for Québec, white for Trois-Rivières and red for Montréal. It is said this fashion started within the militia. For service rendered the soldiers of the Marine troops received a piece of land gratuitously in the region of their choice.
